When you mail under the Every Door Direct Mail Program – the Post Office extends a reduced postage rate in exchange for doing some of the work they would normally have to do – it is basically a “work share program”.
By delivering it directly to the Post Office that services the deliver area you are mailing to – the Post Office has minimal transportation costs. Second, by bundling the postcards in groups of 50 and rubber banding the facing slip to them- there is no need to process the mail it goes directly to the postal carrier and he/she puts one in each mail box of the carrier routes you selected.
In addition to the reduced postage rate for the Every Door Direct Mail program there is additional savings because EDDM does not require the pieces to be addressed so you do not need to purchase a mailing list.
So how much does the Every Door Direct Mail program save me?
It depends because a portion of the savings is offset by the cost to ship the postcards to you (remember with EDDM you deliver your mailing to your local Post Office). Printed material is heavy and shipping costs can vary substantially depending on the distance. Also, as the quantity of your mailing increases the cost savings goes down.
